Since President Trump took office, the cream-puff dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un, has been saber-rattling like never before. The tyrant’s been desperate to scare Trump into backing off his aggressive posture towards the rogue nation, but he’s found that unlike his predecessors, the president sticks to his guns.
On top of Trump’s more assertive policy, he’s been using Twitter to mock Kim, with the latest spat occurring this week. The regime has been attempting missile tests left and right over the last year, claiming they can hit the US mainland if they want. However, despite their lofty claims, many of the tests are spectacular failures.
As reported at the New York Post, it appears that Kim’s dream of holding the US mainland hostage is just that–a dream. A new report highlights just how inconsistent and under-developed North Korean missile technology really is, as a recent test crashed into a city not far from the nation’s capitol.
A Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile became a short-range rocket when it failed during a test flight last April, as it crashed into the city of Tokchon, according to The Diplomat magazine.
The missile flew just 24 miles before taking a nosedive and striking a complex of industrial or agricultural buildings. According to US government officials, the missile’s first-stage engines failed about a minute into flight.
The details of the failed test were discovered by piecing together satellite images that show a massive explosion occurred in the city of Tokchon, where it was estimated that the missile crashed. While no info about casualties is known, it was a heavily populated area, so it’s highly likely there were some.
This is the third failed test of the regime’s Hwasong-12 missile, which has proven to be quite the inconsistent weapon.
The news comes just days after the latest public spat between Trump and Kim.
During a televised speech recently, Kim declared: “The United States can never fight a war against me and our state. It should properly know that the whole territory of the US is within the range of our nuclear strike and a nuclear button is always on the desk of my office, and this is just a reality, not a threat.”
President Trump took to Twitter to respond to the threat saying:
“North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.’ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”
This new report is sure to upset Kim even more now that everyone knows his threats are empty. It’s not to say the regime isn’t a threat, but it’s nice to know that the claims about striking the US are still a pipe dream.
