The Republican defeat in Alabama was both shocking and severely damaging to President Trump’s ability to implement his agenda. In the Senate, the already narrow GOP majority is now at 51, meaning there’s ample opportunity for the plethora of Establishment goons to block the passage of any conservative legislation.
The man who emerged victorious in Alabama, Doug Jones, likely never expected to win, seeing how the state of Alabama is deep red and hadn’t sent a Democrat to the Senate this century. Even so, Jones is now a member of Congress, and already he’s made an interesting move that’s rather surprising given the Left’s so-called love of diversity and race consciousness.
As reported at the Hill, Senate-elect Doug Jones announced Tuesday that he has hired Dana Gresham as his chief of staff, which will make him the only Democratic senator to have a black person in that position.
It’s probably not a stat one would expect, considering the various black senators and lip service given to the diversity issue by Democrats. On the contrary, there are two Republican senators that have black chiefs of staff, Tim Scott, and Jerry Moran.
If you look at the statistics, you’ll find that of the 3,600 staffers in the Senate, only about 5 percent are black. But don’t expect any attention to be given to that number until Democrats eclipse the GOP in the staffer diversity department, as they wouldn’t dare out their own stunning lack of diversity until it’s at least better than their supposed racist counterparts.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Gresham has served in leadership roles in presidential administrations and for members of Congress before, so he’s more than qualified for the job. He led the Legislative Affairs Office at the Department of Transportation during all eight years of the Obama administration and has also worked on Capitol Hill for 14 years.
On top of Gresham, Jones announced three other senior staff hires. Mark Libell as legislative director, Ann Berry as transition adviser, and Katie Campbell as deputy legislative director. All three are Alabama natives and have extensive experience working with senators and House members.
Jones will be sworn in on Wednesday, and he’ll be using a family Bible during the ceremony.
“Today I’m proud to announce that we have recruited four outstanding individuals to join our team,” Jones said in a statement. “Each of them possess long and impressive careers in public service, and as Alabama natives, share my commitment to the people of our state.”
Hopefully, Jones will be on the moderate side and not instantly kowtow to the radical elements of the Democratic Party. It would be some consolation if that were the case, but only time will tell.
