While there’s no mistaking that Harvey Weinstein is a disgusting degenerate that deserves to be locked up, it doesn’t mean there wasn’t any onus on his victims to be aware of who they were dealing with and to avoid situations that they found themselves in.
Some folks will call it victim blaming, to expect people to exercise a little caution when it comes to these issues. But in the case of Weinstein, his behavior was an open secret amongst the celebrities in Hollywood. Not only that, the whole “casting couch” type of situations are par for the course and not unexpected in the entertainment industry.
This week, while sitting down for an interview with Megyn Kelly, a former television star known for her extreme sex appeal acknowledged that while Weinstein may have been a predator, his victims aren’t entirely faultless.
As reported at Decider, former “Baywatch” star Pamela Anderson is receiving typical left-wing backlash for her comments about the Weinstein scandals.
“It was common knowledge that certain producers or certain people in Hollywood or people to avoid, privately,” Anderson said. “You know what you’re getting into if you’re going into a hotel room alone. When I came to Hollywood, of course I had a lot of offers to do private auditions and things that made absolutely no sense. Just common sense: don’t go into a hotel room alone. If someone enters a door in a bathrobe, leave. These things that are common sense.”
Anderson pointed out that the vast majority of Weinstein’s accusers claimed that he violated them after they willingly went to his hotel room alone. Trying to mitigate the controversial direction the conversation was going, Kelly interjected to mention that many of the women met with Weinstein under the pretense of a business meeting and were brought up to his room by agents and female assistants. A “private business meeting” alone in a known pervert’s hotel room alone, seems pretty sketchy on the face of it one would think.
Despite Kelly’s excuses, Anderson said being escorted to Weinstein’s hotel room by a third party wasn’t a “good excuse,” and that these women, many of whom are leftists that love to talk about the issue of abuse and act like every guy is on the verge of harassing them, should’ve had someone in the room with them to prevent any funny business.
“That’s what they should have done. Send somebody with them,” Anderson said. “I think there’s easy ways to remedy that. That’s not a good excuse.”
She continued: “I know that Hollywood is very seductive and these people want to be famous. Sometimes you think you’re going to be safe with an adult in the room. I don’t know where this security comes from, but somehow I’ve dodged it all. I’ve been offered lots of things. A condo and a Porsche to be someone’s number one girl. I just naively said, ‘Well there must be a number two then, so I’m not interested.’ Money, homes, roles in movies. And I just didn’t want to do it that way. I had no desire. I’m a romantic and it didn’t appeal to me.”
Anderson is undoubtedly going to catch some serious flak, but she’s absolutely right. It’s strange that the type of people most guilty of assuming guys incapable of controlling themselves, are so willing to accept private business meetings alone in a hotel room with the person that has power over them, from whom they’re trying to get a favor from. Common sense should tell any person that it’s a terrible idea for a litany of reasons.
Even so, it doesn’t change the fact that Weinstein is bad man, but maybe in the future these celebrities will exercise caution that even the lowest measure of common sense demands.
