It’s safe to say that the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal has opened the floodgates across the country. From Hollywood to the DC swamp, no elite is safe anymore, as women are flocking to publicly name and shame the powerful men that have abused them.
Several politicians are currently embroiled in scandals, like Al Franken and Roy Moore, but no resolution has been reached in their cases. While those fish are big enough, we now have another bombshell that should be rocking the liberal media, that being the innumerable lascivious actions of Democratic Rep. John Conyers.
As reported at the New York Post, it’s been revealed that Conyers, the longest-serving House Democrat, has been using taxpayer money to escort a menagerie of women to and from his office over the years. Not only that, but former staffers have sworn that he routinely sexually harassed them and more than hinted that sexual favors would be rewarded in the office.
As a result of these damning allegations, Conyers has decided to step down as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, pending an investigation into the array of crimes he’s been accused of.
In a statement released through Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s office on Sunday, Conyers said he realized that he may “undermine” the committee’s work if he stays at the helm.
“I have come to believe that my presence as Ranking Member on the Committee would not serve these efforts while the Ethics Committee investigation is pending,” the 88-year-old said in the statement.
“I cannot in good conscience allow these charges to undermine my colleagues in the Democratic Caucus, and my friends on both sides of the aisle in the Judiciary Committee and the House of Representatives.”
Pelosi’s reaction to the Conyers controversy evolved throughout Sunday, starting with her calling the veteran congressman an “icon in our country” who “deserves due process” on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
“He will do the right thing in terms of what he knows about his situation, that he’s entitled to due process, but women are entitled to due process as well,” she said, adding, “We are talking about what we have heard. I have asked the Ethics Committee to look into that. He has said he is open, he will cooperate.”
Isn’t that convenient, Nancy. Because he’s a member of your disgraceful party he gets due process, yet you tar and feather every Republican as guilty the second any sort of accusation comes out against them.
The senile Pelosi, who’s long been on the #ListenAndBelieve bandwagon, wouldn’t say if she believed the numerous female staffers accusing Conyers. However, after Conyers made the announcement that he would step down, she took a harder public stance.
“Zero tolerance means consequences,” Pelosi said. “Any credible accusation must be reviewed by the Ethics Committee expeditiously. We are at a watershed moment on this issue, and no matter how great an individual’s legacy, it is not a license for harassment.”
Don’t think folks don’t notice the “credible accusation” line in there, Nancy. You slipped that in there so you can downplay any evidence down the line if you so desire. Funny how Democrats get the benefit of the doubt, and have to have “credible” evidence backing the allegations against them. Talk about double standards. How they can call for Roy Moore’s head yet barely have the guts to say a negative word about Conyers is astonishing.
Regardless of the Democrats’ cowardice and rank hypocrisy, Conyers’ congressional days are numbered, as the allegations are from the sworn affidavits of victims and former staffers. The evidence is very strong, which means that pretty soon, Congress will be short another degenerate.
