In the current year, it’s impossible to escape politics. Everything’s become overly politicized, from sports to the food we eat. The result of the national polarization is a constant call to boycott this or that, as companies become more involved in the culture wars.
Most of the time, companies are signaling to leftists, much to the chagrin of conservatives. That’s because, despite liberals’ claims to the contrary, the Left is replete with billionaires and big business owners that are more than happy to push their ideology via their companies.
The latest company to jump into the political fray is coffee-machine maker Keurig, which just decided to pull its ads from the Fox News show “Hannity.”
As reported at the New York Post, thanks to Keurig’s abandonment of Hannity, the company is now the target of a conservative boycott. Keurig made a point to pull their ads from the controversial conservative’s show after he dared to defend Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.
The controversy around Moore stems from claims that over 30 years, when he was in his early 30s, he liked to date teenage girls. Apparently, the Left thinks these same girls are more than capable enough to make a life and death decision about their unborn babies, but not to be in a relationship with an older man, however creepy that may be.
Fans of Hannity’s show are furious with the political decision and have already taken to Twitter calling for a boycott, with some videoing themselves smashing their Keurig products.
“I pulled an ‘Office Space’ with my Keurig…” tweeted New Jersey Marines veteran and life coach John Angelo Gage, along with a video of him taking a hammer to his Keurig in a nod to the 1999 Mike Judge film. “Would be a shame if everyone else joined me in the Keurig Smash Challenge #BoycottKeurig #IStandWithHannity #SundayMorning”
The major accusation against Moore is that he fondled a 14-year-old girl when he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney in the 1970s. A few other women have come forward accusing him of pursuing untoward relationships with them while they were teens as well, but absent from their claims are any accusations of anything illegal. Moore has vociferously denied the claims, questioning their timing and veracity.
Hannity landed himself in hot water with Keurig after he suggested on his radio show that Moore’s accusers were telling lies.
“So, there’s politics in all of this. Then you have false allegations that are made, and you know — how do you determine? It’s “He said, she [said],” he said on Thursday. “I just — I don’t know how you find out the truth.” And Hannity is absolutely correct. How on earth are we supposed to know what’s true when people are making unfalsifiable claims about stuff that happened in the 1970s?
Moreover, no matter how distasteful, he didn’t necessarily do anything illegal. Considering the times we’re living in, and all the accusations of sexual harassment and improprieties going around, it’s very telling that these women aren’t accusing him of anything other than hitting on them when they were young.
Regardless of the lack of evidence, Moore is radioactive, and any defense of him is tantamount to being a predator yourself, which is why leftists immediately called on Hannity’s sponsors to drop him.
“We worked with our media partner and FOX news to stop our ad from airing during the Sean Hannity Show,” the company tweeted to critics Saturday. While the company may have thought it was heading off a potential PR storm should they have done nothing, they’ve now angered conservatives.
“@Keurig I just want you to know that my family owns five Keurig’s, each one was just thrown out. good job listening to Lib lunatics who don’t even have jobs. #BoycottKeurig,” tweeted user @RosaleeShawn.
It’ll be interesting to see how Keurig responds in the days ahead. Likely, they’ll take the opportunity to double down and capitalize on the perception they’re “standing strong” in the face of “evil” conservative backlash. Because once you’ve gone to bed with the Left, you’re hitched to their wagon forever.
