While there’s a deluge of problems with the disastrous Obamacare, there’s one rule, in particular, that was aimed squarely at upsetting conservatives and forcing the Left’s values on us.
Adding insult to the healthcare injury, liberals forced employers that provide health coverage to cover all forms of birth control, even if it violates the employer’s conscience on religious grounds. This has been a major issue for religious conservatives and lawsuits across the nation have been filed to fight the law. But thanks to Trump, those suits are no longer needed.
As reported at the New York Post, on Friday, President Trump announced a new rule that would allow employers to opt out of providing free birth control to women by claiming religious objections.
The Left has some sort of fetish with providing women with free birth control, even abortifacients, at other people’s expense. They’ve claimed that employers who don’t want to be forced to provide such products are anti-women and religious nut-jobs. But when it comes down to it, on principle, it doesn’t really matter what their reasons are for not wanting to aid in abortion.
That’s because it’s absurd to specifically force people to provide birth control for free, something that should be left for women to purchase for themselves if their coverage doesn’t. But liberals are obsessed with forcing their will on Christians, so they made sure to enshrine the policy into law under Obama just to spite them.
They’re now pretending that Trump’s rollback of the rule is some extreme and significant blow to the overall function of Obamacare, which it’s not. It’s symbolic and an important strike back against the Left’s discrimination of Christians, but it won’t affect the law in any noticeable.
For those that don’t like it, no one is forcing them to work for an employer that has values objecting to paying for abortifacients. It’s not like they’re not providing coverage, they are, even standard birth control, just not the few, more extreme measures that effectively result in an early term abortion.
Predictably, leftists are throwing a tantrum over the move. “The rules give employers a license to discriminate against women,” said Fatima Goss Graves, president of the National Women’s Law Center. “We will take immediate legal steps to block these unfair and discriminatory rules.”
Ah yes, it’s discriminatory to ask strong, empowered women to pay for the more extreme versions of birth control that they’ll likely never use, but not at all to point the gun of the State at the heads of Christian institutions, demanding they violate religious principles or else.
This is the warped logic of the Left. Forcing companies to provide insurance is already bad enough, but targeting those they hate with such petty and spiteful demands is beyond the pale. If women truly are so empowered and strong, as they’re constantly reminding us, then it’s not too much to ask for them to take responsibility for their reproductive choices, not stick others with the bill.
The hypocrisy that the Left shows on this issue is astounding and transparent. You don’t get to demand that people get involved in the financial aspects of your sex life then turn around and say things like “My vagina, my choice!” and “Stay out of my uterus!” The funny thing is, religious institutions are trying to stay out of women’s reproductive business and choices, but it’s the Left that just won’t let them.
