The last few years haven’t been the best for America’s most popular sport. First it was the discovery of the true impact of head injuries and just how prevent they are, and now it’s the declining ratings and outraged fans that are sick and tired of the league kowtowing to the Left.
The viewership collapse the NFL has suffered since Colin Kaepernick initiated the knee-down protests is massive, even if it’s still the most watched sport. The growth of the sport had always been on an upward trajectory, but thanks to recent decisions by Commissioner Roger Goodell and actions of the players, that’s no longer the case. While it’s evident the league’s been scrambling to stop the bleeding, all it’s managing to do is more damage to itself.
As reported at Breitbart, in an absolutely moronic move, the NFL has tripled down on the left-wing infestation of the sport, choosing to establish a player-owner committee focusing on social and racial justice initiatives.
The league also said Tuesday it is beginning a “Let’s Listen Together” campaign that includes digital content and commercials highlighting player-led work on equality issues. That platform will include social media support and letters from players and owners.
Owners on the committee are Arizona’s Michael Bidwill, Atlanta’s Arthur Blank, Jacksonville’s Shahid Khan, Cleveland’s Jimmy Haslam and Miami’s Stephen Ross. Current players Josh McCown, Josh Norman, and Kelvin Beachum, Pro Football Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams, and former player Anquan Boldin are on the committee.
Boldin told reporters that the committee and its pursuits should be “celebrated” because the NFL is the “first professional league or entity that has taken the concerns of its players and put resources behind it.”
What an ironic name, “Let’s Listen Together.” We all know this will be far less of a listening campaign than a tell you what to do ” Or else!” one. For the Left, compromise isn’t an option. You either accept their worldview and abide by their rules, or you’re a bigot and enemy.
It’s a real shame that this is the road the NFL willingly chose, despite all the evidence before them telling them it’s the wrong one. Maybe one day they’ll start caring about the fans and the damage that’s being done, but it looks like it’s going to take a lot more self-inflicted suffering before that happens.
