A crack team of private investigators claims to have discovered evidence of a massive FBI coverup. Notorious hijacker, DB Cooper did not, they argue, perish after his 1971 Boeing heist. Instead, “Cooper” continued his life as Vietnam War veteran Robert W. Rackstraw.
Esteemed documentary filmmaker Thomas Colbert revealed that his team cracked the mystery by working with a code breaker who pored over each of the five letter supposedly sent by Cooper after the heist.
The team discovered a nine-digit number at the bottom of one of the letters and related it to Rackstraw. According to the Daily Mail, “the ‘RWR’ in the coding is Rackstraw’s initial… Another note contained coding that read: ‘CAN FBI CATCH ME… SWS’, which Colbert said was Rackstraw taunting agents to track him. He added that the SWS stood for Special Warfare School.”
The FBI questioned Rackstraw in 1978 but ultimately dismissed him as a suspect. The agency officially closed the investigation in 2016, telling the public that the still unidentified Cooper had died in the woods after his daring crime.
In 1971 a man hijacked a Boeing 7272 and held its crew and passengers hostage. He demanded $200,000 cash, which was transferred to the plane. He sent the crew off before parachuting into the Pacific Northwest woods. Investigators called the man DB Cooper.
Rackstraw has led an interesting life.
“Rackstraw was suspected of kiting checks for $75,000, but fled before arrest and went to Iran to teach the Shah’s men how to fly helicopters,” the Daily Mail writes.
“Meanwhile, back at home, police raided his storage units and found 14 rifles and 150 lbs of dynamite… he was arrested for fraud and the murder of his stepfather. Rackstraw was acquitted of murder and made bail on the fraud charge. Then he faked his death, pretending to crash his plane in the ocean at Monterey Bay, California.”
Colbert and his team hope to prove that Cooper and Rackstraw are one and the same.
“As we suspected, records show the Bureau has been stonewalling, covering up evidence and flat-out lying for decades,” Colbert said.
