Since Donald Trump’s presidential victory, many of our “allies” have taken to trashing the US at every opportunity. With leftists are firmly in control in Europe, and understanding they have allies in the American media, they have been incredibly critical of Trump over the tiniest things.
Of course, it’s rather amusing and enraging to see Europeans, who are completely reliant upon the US for their defense, smack talk the president for having the audacity to pursue policies that benefit the US first and everyone else second. But that’s where we are in the current year. The latest example of this can be seen in the world’s opposition to the US moving its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Earlier this week the UN Security Council voted 14-1 to condemn Trump’s plan, with the US being left all alone. On Thursday, the entire General Assembly took a vote, and the outcome is exactly what you’d expect.
As reported at the New York Post, the United Nations General Assembly voted 128-9 Thursday to declare the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “null and void.”
The vote comes after US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, went off on the back-stabbers after the initial Security Council vote, telling them: “The United States will remember this day in which it was sought out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation.”
Trump also had some choice words after the first vote, implying that should our “allies” continue their anti-American nonsense, they, along with the UN, could see the handouts they receive from the US disappear. He told reporters on Wednesday that the American people were tired of seeing their tax dollars go to feckless nations that constantly side against the US.
“Let them vote against us, we’ll save a lot,” Trump said. “We don’t care. This isn’t like it used to be where they could vote against you and then you pay them hundreds of millions of dollars and nobody knows what they’re doing.”
Americans are “tired of being taken advantage of” at the UN “and we’re not going to be taken advantage of any longer,” Trump said.
On Thursday, the General Assembly called the president’s bluff by emphatically siding with the Palestinians over Israel and the US. The pettiness of the vote, to specifically “condemn” the American president’s decision, is a slap in the face and was only done because of the widespread disdain for Trump. If Obama had done the same thing, the outcome and reaction from the UN would have been far different.
The only question now is if Trump will follow through with the threat. Many conservatives have long been critical of the US’ massive foreign aid budget and disproportionate funding of the impotent UN. Hopefully, Trump won’t back down and will begin cutting aid to those that betrayed us. Not just for their latest slight, but also because it’s insane for US citizens to be funding other nations when we have so many problems of our own back home.
