104-Year-Old Woman Attributes Drinking Diet Coke To Her Incredible Longevity

December 15, 2024 by Caleb Marius

There’s a never-ending supply of products and diets out there claiming to boost one’s health and help one live a long life. Health products and supplements are part of a massive industry that’s always trying to lure people into the next fad or craze.

While it can be easy to get caught up in it, eating cleaner and exercising is still the most fundamental and legitimate way to maintain one’s health. That being said, one century-old woman has offered up her own advice to those looking to live a long life, and it’s far simpler and cheaper than pretty much anything else you’ve heard before.

As reported at the Daily Mail, 104-year-old Theresa Rowley from Grand Rapids, Michigan just celebrated her birthday on January 1, and when it came to the secrets behind her health, she said the Diet Coke was the answer.

“When I was 100, I thought I’d never be 104,” she told WZZM. “Then I turn 101, and nothing happens… Here I am 104, and still nothing happens.”

Rowley says that every single day she consumes a Diet Coke

“I drink it because I like it,” she explained. “I’m going shopping Wednesday, and I need more Diet Coke. I have a bag full of empty Diet Coke cans that I need to return to buy more Diet Coke.”

The funny thing is, Rowley was already 68 when the beverage was even launched, meaning she wasn’t able to drink it for the majority of her life.

While Rowley’s tale is a nice one, scientists vehemently disagree that Diet Coke or any soda could be good for one’s health.

Obesity, diabetes, stroke, and dementia are things that have been linked to soda consumption in various studies. Diet drinks are especially onerous, as they give people the illusion that they’re being “healthier,” but they will still put weight on you and increase the risk of diabetes despite being low-calorie.

What’s so harmful about diet products is how they confuse the body, since they’re completely unnatural scientists say. Since the drink is sweet despite being low-calorie, it causes one’s metabolism to go bonkers.

Researchers at Yale University say in nature, sweetness signals the presence of energy, so that the sweeter something tastes, the more calories it contains. And research suggests that adults who have at least one diet drink a day are three times more at risk of a stroke or dementia.

A Boston University study from last year, which used 4,400 adults, concluded that diet beverages are worse than regular sugary ones, as the former was linked to a higher chance of stroke and dementia.

Artificial sweeteners, including aspartame and saccharine, are the primary culprits, as they may be affecting blood vessels, which help trigger these diseases and illnesses.

Ella Allred, a technical nutritionist at NutriCentre, offered up a succinct analysis of how the body reacts to Diet Coke: “As soon as you taste the sweetness of Diet Coke, your body prepares for the sugar load and causes you pancreases releases insulin. The insulin surge decreases the pancreases sensitivity to insulin, putting you at risk of developing diabetes type 2. The insulin triggers your body to store fat around your middle, and increases your risk of developing heart disease.”

So next time you’re craving a soda, either don’t get one at all or go all out and avoid the diet varieties.
