As the media circus continues into its third act, we are reminded that the mainstream media doesn’t take kindly to things like facts and reason. While the bombastic wiretapping claims of Trump might have missed the mark in some respects, they hit dead center on this one.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is known as the country’s toughest sheriff. He has dozens of years in law enforcement, including 23 years as Arizona’s Maricopa County Sheriff. However, in 2008 he became a defendant in a trial that was brought over his treatment of the inmates under his watch. He was charged with criminal-contempt and faced possible jail time if found guilty.
It has now been revealed that the Obama Administration had tapped his phones and everyone surrounding the case.
Via Info Wars:
“While the Department of Justice was prosecuting Sheriff Arpaio from 2008 to 2010, the NSA conducted electronic surveillance of the various Arizona judges on the case, on Sheriff Arpaio, and on the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, while the DOJ attorneys for Eric Holder maintained an on-going telephone back-channel discussion with the federal judge assigned to handle the case.
The timeline released in federal court details NSA electronic surveillance and DOJ judge-tampering in the civil rights case brought against Arpaio in 2008, involving the 2007 arrest of Manuel de Jesús Ortega Melendres, with the DOJ charging Arpaio with discriminating against Hispanics by implementing car-stop procedures DOJ considered to involve racial-profiling.
On Sept. 28, 2009, the timeline suggests the Department of Justice ordered a wiretap in which the NSA began wiretapping telephone conversations involving several Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department police officers – including placing electronic surveillance on Sheriff Arpaio’s office, his home and his cellphone.”
No matter how you feel about the Sherriff’s tactics to keep his prisoners from ever wanting a return ticket, the man was still guaranteed a fair jury trial for any and all charges brought against him. The same fair trial that was guaranteed for every person who came to be incarcerated under his watch. Perhaps those who ordered wiretapping on his case were interested because they knew that jail time might be in their near future as well.
The Sherriff recently lost his bid for re-election, but he doesn’t seem unhappy about the results. He fought the good fight, and will now have a little more time at home.
Best of luck to him in all his future endeavors.
