Bill O’Reilly appeared on his old network last night. Fox News host Sean Hannity hosted a sprawling interview with the disgraced pundit.
O’Reilly lost his job after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment. Fox executives paid huge sums to silence the victims but didn’t remove O’Reilly from the air until the scandal had become too outrageous to be ignored.
“Well, now. Hannity and I have discussed this off-camera. We’re gonna fight back. You, I have to give you, all the credit in the world. You fought back when they came after you last spring. I didn’t and I should have,” O’Reilly said bitterly.
Although he denies the charges against him, he admits that he didn’t do enough to clear his name.
“In the 20 years and 6 months that I worked for FNC (Fox News Corporation), I was attacked every day of my life. Every day, O’Reilly said. “Who knows what I’m going to do. I enjoyed my summer off. The vitriol that you have to face and I have to face, I gotta evaluate it.”
It doesn’t matter if Fox News takes him back or not. O’Reilly’s bad-boy celebrity is enough to secure him media attention until the day he dies. If he does go back to TV, let’s just hope he does it in a better way than fellow ex-Fox employee Megyn Kelly did. Her deal with NBC has been a flop.
