There was a little bit of something for everybody in yesterday’s Senate hearing with former FBI Director James Comey. Interest, intrigue, highly educated individuals making themselves look like idiots; pretty much a just add popcorn entertainment situation.
One not so entertaining issue that was brought to the surface that no one expected was the mental wellness of one of our Republic senators. Republican Senator John McCain has been no great supporter of President Trump, so maybe we can credit this conflict of interest for the confusing turn that his questioning took, but the results weren’t good for his political future.

Social Media and news outlets had a field day with Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) questions to fired FBI Director James Comey during his appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, leading to the senator blaming his late night viewing of the Arizona Diamondbacks for his confusing inquiry.

John McCain reminded me of very senior faculty who seem barely present at seminars. Except he's a senator at a key Intel Committee hearing.

“During a hard-to-follow line of questioning, McCain pressed Comey about his investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email use,” the L.A. Times reported.
“She was clearly involved in this whole situation where fake news, as you just described it, ‘big deal,’ took place,” McCain said. “You’re going to have to help me out here.”
“In other words, we’re complete — the investigation of anything that former Secretary Clinton had to do with a campaign is over, and we don’t have to worry about it anymore?” McCain said.
Comey seemed confused at the line of questioning, and not long after the hearing ended McCain issued a statement:
“I get the sense from Twitter that my line of questioning today went over people’s heads. Maybe going forward I shouldn’t stay up late watching the Diamondbacks night games.”
I know we can’t expect term limits (for some crazy reason) but it seems like we could at least get some mental wellness checks once in a while. McCain wasted precious time that could have been used to get to the bottom of this issue with his confusion. The man has obviously served his country in multiple capacities for many years, maybe it’s time to retire and let the young guns take over, because this kind of activity is sub-par, at best.
