President Trump’s efforts to make America Great Again might already be coming to life with the decline of enrollment in the welfare program. This program is one that is the bane of many conservatives existence, considering the number of able bodied adults who are thought to exploit it, and President Trump has had plans to fix it.
That fix isn’t completely in place yet, but the dropping numbers are encouraging just the same.
Via Breitbart News:
Participation in the food stamp program took a dive to the lowest level it has been in seven years, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
USDA statistics on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participation showed that 42,609,852 people in the U.S. took part in the food stamp program in fiscal year (FY) 2017, the lowest level it has been since 2010 when 40,302,000 people enrolled in the program.
Food stamp usage has been on a steady decline after 2013, when enrollment in the government program swelled to 47.6 million, the highest amount it has ever been since the program’s inception.
The increase in the number people receiving food stamps during that period can be attributed to the Obama administration’s effort to allow those with higher incomes to receive benefits. Enrollment in benefits increased by 70 percent from the year former President Barack Obama took office in 2008 to 2013.
So basically, under the Obama administration, the enrollment in welfare benefits increased by almost 3/4 what it was in 2008 when he was elected and we’re finally shaking some of that off. Raising the income cap allowed those who were formerly getting along without benefits to add to their standard of living with government benefits.
This may seem good or bad to you, depending on your perspective, but one thing is for sure; the more people on the government dole, the more can be scared into voting for big government. If the DNC can scare more people into being afraid of the government being downsized, they’ll vote Democrat for life.
Conversely, if President Trump can find those who consider themselves under employed jobs, they will see a great big chunk of that paycheck flying out the door. Then, they’ll not only have a sense of ownership in the economy, they’ll be ready to mercilessly eviscerate socialist government programs.
We do have a long way to go, but at least the fall out has begun.
