The accusations against Matt Lauer haven’t even been revealed yet, and he already has supporters willing to deny their accuracy. Lauer’s swift dismissal from NBC is still being processed.
Geraldo Rivera decided he needed to let his followers know that he thinks Lauer is probably innocent.
“Sad about @MLauer great guy, highly skilled & empathetic w guests & a real gentleman to my family & me. News is a flirty business & it seems like current epidemic of #SexHarassmentAllegations may be criminalizing courtship & conflating it w predation.” Rivera tweeted.
NBC was paying Lauer $25 million a year yet they dropped him like he was infected. It’s hard to believe that the network dumped their golden boy without having a very good reason. The woman’s claims against him must have seemed credible.
“A jerk’s a jerk in dating. #SexHarassment should be confined to situations where superior imposes himself on subordinate who feels unable to complain because of power of perp or feared consequences to victim’s employment. Shouldn’t be used to get even w bad bosses or hated ex’s,” Rivera said.
Rivera’s influence has been slipping. The once in-demand journalist is far less popular than he used to be. He might be trying to inject himself into the news by defending Lauer.
The scum is being cleared out of the entertainment industry. Powerful men have flouted the law for too long; they’re finally being forced to pay for their crimes. Within hours of the Lauer scandal being announced, the number of his accusers grew.
