Rob Schneider thinks “Saturday Night Live” needs to ease up on President Trump. The comedian revealed that he’s lost interest in Alec Baldwin’s anti-Trump caricature because it’s gotten old. We get it, SNL’s writers think Trump’s a buffoon and still wish Hillary Clinton were in the White House.
“The fun of ‘Saturday Night Live’ was always you never knew which way they leaned politically… You kind of assumed they would lean more left and liberal, but now the cat’s out of the bag they are completely against Trump, which I think makes it less interesting because you know the direction the piece is going,” Schneider said.
Everyone knows exactly what direction SNL is headed in now. The show’s liberal crew hates the president and that they don’t hesitate to show it.
“Alec Baldwin is a brilliant actor… he’s not a comedian,” Schneider said..
“I don’t find his impression to be comical… Because, like I said, I know the way his politics lean and it spoils any surprise. There’s no possible surprise. He so clearly hates the man he’s playing.”
Audiences feel the same way. The negative, anti-Trump blather filling the airways is only popular with a specific kind of liberal. Disagreeing with Trump isn’t enough, you need to be on the verge of hate to produce to the type of vitriol that the left has become known for.
Schneider is brave. It’s practically career suicide for a modern comedian to say anything that might be construed as positive about the president.
Schneider also shared a story about a time Trump helped him out. He needed a place to stay while shooting a movie and the future president stepped up.
“[Trump] was nice enough to give me a room. He gave me a room for free, so I could sleep between shots,” Schneider said. “He was very generous and nice and has been nice every time I saw him. He told me hated me, but he was kind of joking because I made fun of him.”
