On March 6th, former presidential candidate and newly appointed Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, gave a speech that was the subject of much-heated debate. Carson was addressing employees of the HUD organization when he made the inflammatory statements.
Here’s the quote that was so provocative to many:
“That’s what America is about–a land of dreams and opportunity. There were immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder, for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”
This caused so much horror and outrage that many had to resort to drastic measures; they had to attack him on social media (pause for reaction).
Warning: strong language

Since Ben Carson thinks slaves were immigrants then he must think Jews were guests at the Nazi Summer Camp. #SlavesAreNotImmigrants

Not only does Ben Carson think slaves were immigrants pursuing the American Dream, they also never thanked slavers for the free boat ride.

Shortly after this faux pas of epic proportions, The Washington Free Beacon published a side-by-side video featuring Ben Carson’s remarks alongside those made during a 2015 speech by then-President Barack Obama–and they were eerily similar:
OBAMA: “And perhaps, like some of you, these new arrivals might have had some moments of doubt, wondering if they had made a mistake in leaving everything and everyone they ever knew behind…So life in America was not always easy. It wasn’t always easy for new immigrants. Certainly it wasn’t easy for those of African heritage who had not come here voluntarily, and yet in their own way were immigrants themselves.
There was discrimination and hardship and poverty. But, like you, they no doubt found inspiration in all those who had come before them. And they were able to muster faith that, here in America, they might build a better life and give their children something more.”
Of course, the celebrities that had previously been up in arms immediately retracted their vulgar statements once they heard that their buddy Barry Obama had said the same thing. They could never blame both of these men for the same thing. That would just be ridiculous, seeing as they’re both African American, talking about their ancestors.
Oh wait, I forgot, celebs only apologize for their Halloween costumes, and American’s having rights.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; if the formerly most powerful man in American, and possibly the most brilliant man in America, both of whom are black, can’t say that African Americans started out in Africa . . . I think that’s a good sign that the PC button is broken on this country. The rest of us have no hope, we are just walking on egg shells hoping no one jumps down our throats about the fair treatment of chickens.
