Vice President Mike Pence was on the receiving end of liberal vitriol Monday after delivered an address the Israeli Knesset. Pence doubled down on the president’s order to relocate the U.S. embassy.
Arab lawmakers in attendance were so enraged by Pence’s words that they became violent. They began shrieking and wielding offensive signs, causing the people around to try to yank the signs away. The juvenile scene unfolded in the midst of Pence’s speech.
“Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, and as such President Trump has directed the State Department to immediately begin preparations to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” Pence said firmly.
“I am here to convey one simple message. America stands with Israel. We stand with Israel because your cause is our cause, your values are our values, and your fight is our fight… We stand with Israel because we believe in right over wrong, good over evil, and liberty over tyranny.”
The Arab world convulsed with outrage when President Trump first announced his intention to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Previous administrations skirted around the issue, behaving as though there was some chance that Israel and Palestine would work out a truce themselves.
“Jerusalem is Israel’s capital, and as such President Trump has directed the State Department to immediately begin preparations to move the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” Pence said.
“In the weeks ahead our administration will advance its plan to open the United States embassy in Jerusalem. And that United States embassy will open before the end of next year.”
The Trump administration believes that decisive action regarding Jerusalem will free the way to peace talks. Jerusalem will become one less thing to squabble about when the Palestinians recognize it as Israel’s capital.
Their acceptance, however, won’t come easy.
