President Trump gave what most are calling “the best speech of his life” on Tuesday night to a joint session of congress. The President embodied what a confident and concise Commander in Chief should look and sound like, laying out both his plans and accomplishments.
The uncontested standout moment of the night was when the President brought the room to its feet on both sides of the aisle for slain hero U.S. Navy Special Operator, Senior Chief William “Ryan” Owens.” President Trump outlined the intelligence that was gained on the mission where Chief Owens made the ultimate sacrifice.
“Ryan’s legacy is etched into eternity,” Trump added, leading to an extended applause break for the Owens family’s sacrifice that lasted nearly two minutes.
“Ryan laid down his life for his friends, for his country, and for our freedom,” Trump said. “And we will never forget Ryan.”
After the address, Brit Hume called the moment the most emotional he witnessed over the past forty similar speeches he covered.
This should be a wake up call to America. Our soldiers put their lives on the line every single day for our country and we need to support them and their families in times of need and sorrow. This is something that no Democrat president would ever do during a joint session. This is why Trump is going to succeed where so many haven’t.
Chief Owens was one of the many soldiers, sailors, and airmen in America who love the name of honor more than they fear death. I join the President in expressing my undying gratitude to them and their families for their incredible sacrifice in the name of freedom.
