The Founding Fathers must be spinning in their graves over the absolutely anti-American immigration policies the Left is pushing. The battle in Congress over the issue is heating up, and the Left’s attempts to keep the illegal invasion of the US alive have, thus far, been stymied.
Over the weekend, the GOP scored a victory in the battle by not conceding on DACA during the deal-making process over the budget and government shutdown. The win has given Republicans more leverage in negotiations, as their primary chip, DACA, is still in play. In the aftermath of the budget deal, Trump let everyone know that he won’t be getting the short end of negotiations on immigration.
As reported at Politico, President Trump once again put his foot down and reminded the disgraceful and whiny Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that so long as there’s no border wall, no deal on DACA will be made.
“Cryin’ Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!”
Democrats suffered a rare defeat on Monday when they agreed to end the short 3-day government shutdown without successfully getting their way on DACA. Schumer’s been in damage control trying to appease outraged leftists, saying that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell gave him “assurances” the chamber would hold a vote on immigration in the coming weeks.
So used to getting his way, Schumer told the White House that a funding package for the wall that was offered as part of last-ditch negotiations on Friday was no longer on the table.
“The thought was that we could come to an agreement that afternoon, the president would announce his support, and the Senate and the House would get it done and it would be on the president’s desk,” the minority leader said Tuesday. “He didn’t do that. So we’re going to have to start on a new basis, and so the wall offer is off the table.”
While Schumer is preaching that Trump won’t be getting his wall, Democrat Joe Manchin said Wednesday that a deal to protect Dreamers is close and that the border security measures, including the wall, are necessary.
“Then you have the border, border security, border wall, whatever you want to call it. They’re getting into a tiff about this, Chris. We have to have border security. We know that. So if the president calls it a border wall, we do need a wall. We need to repair some wall. We need to build some new wall. We need other technologies, too,” Manchin told CNN “New Day” host Chris Cuomo.
The reality is, the GOP has the power here, so there’s no reason to capitulate in the issue. The absolute least that should be gained from negotiations is a wall and significantly heightened security. There’s zero excuse to achieve less than that, and really, much, much more should be gained, but this is the GOP we’re talking about. They’re as spineless as jellyfish. All we can do is hope that Trump holds the line and keeps his promises because if he doesn’t, there’s going to be hell to pay at the polls.
