Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson has been receiving some criticism for referring to slaves who were brought to America as “immigrants” on Monday. First off, the dictionary defines immigrants as people who move to another country and take up permanent residence.
So, technically speaking, he was absolutely correct. Also, former President Obama also referred to African Americans as immigrants in a speech in 2015.
Watch below:
I’m sad that any of this is actual news. I understand that it’s not nice to call people names, but unless you’re 100% American Indian, I got news for ya, YOU’RE IN IMMIGRANT and it’s not a slanderous term. I get that the African American community needs to make sure that it is not forgotten that the process by which they entered the country was not an acceptable one, but calling them immigrants isn’t incorrect or insulting.
Correct terminology aside, racial sensitivity has become such a subjective term that now apparently even the formerly most powerful man in the country and quite possibly the smartest man in the country, both black, can’t even refer to the fact that African American’s started off in Africa without garnering all kinds of criticism. This is how unhinged the left has become.
Is it possible that people should start considering intent before heating up the tar and gathering the feathers? Just a thought.
