John McCain has been a staple of the Senate for decades. Ever since returning from his harrowing experience in a prison camp in Vietnam, he’s been a leader in the Republican Party, as the fame of his service helped propel his political career.
While McCain has been a massive thorn in the sides of conservatives over the years, with his unwavering support of amnesty and other abominable policies, at the end of the day, he’s human like the rest of us. Last Year, the long-time senator was diagnosed with a terrible form of brain cancer, and ever since, he’s been battling for his life.
As reported at the Daily Mail, while McCain has been out of commission recently as he seeks treatment for his effectively terminal illness, he’s apparently keen to get back to work. According to a report, McCain is planning to return to the Senate soon, and his daughter has also said that he’s “doing good” in his cancer battle, as he’s been recovering from cancer treatments in his home state of Arizona
Close friend and fellow GOP Senator Lindsey Graham confirmed the report on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, saying that “Senator McCain is in rehab. He’s coming back in January, (and) we need his voice now more than ever.“
McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, said in a co-hosting appearance on ABC’s “The View” that McCain continues to do physical therapy. If dealing with brain cancer wasn’t bad enough, McCain recently tore his Achilles tendon and was hospitalized in Maryland due to an infection.
“I just got off the phone with my father: ‘Do your physical therapy,'” his daughter Meghan said. “We were on the phone. He’s with his physical therapist right now. They’re still in Sedona.”
He even missed the very close and monumental vote on the Republican tax plan, which narrowly passed with support from the other 51 Republicans.
But it looks like nothing will stop the 81-year-old from returning to his duties in Congress this month. But it’s not too surprising considering the toughness he’s shown throughout his life. Hopefully, McCain can once again overcome these difficult circumstances.
