Gun rights are an extremely touchy subject almost everywhere. Everywhere, but Texas that is. In Texas, you’re considered weird and just irresponsible if you don’t carry a gun. In fact, I personally know people who will boycott a business or chain if they don’t allow concealed carry in their establishment.
This is due partly to Texas heritage, and partly to the close attention that voters and lawmakers have paid to keep those rights intact. Taking away the right to carry in Texas would be like taking away the right to put locks on doors. It’s possible you will be fine, but you’re pretty much just relying on dumb luck, and everyone would feel unsafe and be on edge.
Texas Governer Gregg Abbot knows this, and is a staunch supporter of gun rights.
You know you're in Texas when you see signs like this. @NRA #Guns #txlege pic.twitter.com/2ZEbY4NXhE

I could address all the arguments about how safe guns are, and whether children should be brought up around them, etc etc, but I will just leave you with this visual aid.
Yes, we have more guns in Texas, but when someone wants to commit a violent crime in a public place here in Texas, they have to face that the folks around them probably look something like this. Not just law enforcement, not just the able-bodied; everyone packs heat in Texas, and we think that’s a good thing.
