Michael Wolff’s explosive new book paints a chaotic White House run by an overgrown man-child. Fired Trump cabinet member Steve Bannon was quoted extensively. He sneered at the president’s temperament and provided fodder for conspiracy theorists by seeming to give credence to Trump-Russia collusion theories.
Bannon, riding on high on his renewed relevance after the book was released, was soon brought back down to earth by President Trump.
“Michael Wolff is a total loser who made up stories in order to sell this really boring and untruthful book,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“He used Sloppy Steve Bannon, who cried when he got fired and begged for his job. Now Sloppy Steve has been dumped like a dog by almost everyone. Too bad!”
Sloppy Steve should have remembered who his target was when he launched those barbs. Trump is not a man that can be easily insulted. He’s more than capable of defending himself and he has no qualms about dishing out whatever he’s served.
Bannon’s now looks like a fool. His much-talked-about stint in the White House ended in less than a year. It’s rumored that his position at Breitbart isn’t as secure as it once was. Team Trump has turned against him. Perhaps he did cry when he was fired, he certainly had good reason to. 2017 was an abysmal year for both Bannon’s career and his reputation.
Trump’s White House has been rocked by numerous staffing scandals. The charisma and power that led Trump to the presidency were strong enough to compensate for lack of government experience. The same can’t be said of some of his early hires.
