People who attack police officers are monsters.
President Trump feels so strongly about the issue that he believes anyone who kills a cop should receive the death penalty. Using violence against an innocent person who’s trying to serve society is so foul that life in prison might not be enough of a punishment.
Do you agree?
The president made the comment Tuesday at the Annual Peace Officers Memorial Service.
“We must end the attacks on our police and we must end them right now,” Trump said. “We believe criminals who kill our police should get the death penalty. Bring it forth.”
The Trump administration believes in tough justice. The wishy-washy attitude that marked Barack Obama and his cronies have been purged from the White House. Anti-cop sentiments were the norm while Obama was in office. Black Lives Matter grew to prominence and the hate group’s ethos is that cops are evil and not to be trusted.
President Trump feels very differently. During Tuesday’s speech, he specifically mentioned New York City Police Officer Miosotis Familia, a woman who was slain in 2017 because she was wearing her uniform.
“You’re representing something very important… She loved the department,” Trump told her family.
He then offered his support to the children of slain cops.
“I want you to know that your moms and dads were among the bravest Americans to ever live. When danger came, when darkness fell, when destruction loomed they did not flinch, they were not afraid, they did not falter,” he said.
The event was a somber affair but the devastated families could take solace in the fact the president is on their side.
A lot of Americans believe that cop killers deserve the death penalty. However, capital punishment is an extremely fractious political issue. For Trump’s idea to become reality, he’ll need the Democrats’ support.
