It’s the Christmas season, which means that crybaby leftists are getting triggered by the very use of the word and any celebration of the holiday’s true meaning. The culture war on Christmas is a very real thing no matter how much the Left wants to pretend it’s not. All one has to do is watch any commercial and go around to stores to see how overwhelming the “Happy Holidays” signs and greetings are. This, despite them almost always using explicit and exclusive Christmas imagery in their advertising.
It’s pretty frustrating for those who identify as Christians, or who just aren’t triggered by the sight of things we don’t agree with or like. While liberals will celebrate and recognize were specific non-American holidays by name, they still refuse to say “Christmas,” despite it being the nation’s largest and most celebrated one. A fine example of the liberal mindset can be seen in Eugene, Oregon, where one wet-blanket leftist is crying about a banner in town that says both “Christmas” and “Jesus” on it. The horror!
As reported at the New York Post, Rene Salm has threatened to sue city officials in Eugene because of a Christmas banner that he believes is a violation of the separation of church and state. The banner is being displayed above a downtown street, and it says “Christmas – Jesus: Attend a church of your choice, celebrate His birth.”
Salm is a “published” atheist who lives in Eugene and he claimed Tuesday that he’s contacted the American Civil Liberties Union and is trying to find a lawyer. Talk about a transparent attempt to garner publicity.
“I feel like I’m being assaulted, telling me to go to church and celebrate Jesus,” said Salm, who’s published books are titled: “NazarethGate” and “The Myth of Nazareth.” Apparently, Salm isn’t the only triggered resident, as other folks have complained about the banner.
The problem is, the city allows community groups and nonprofit organizations to install banners for up to three weeks to promote events, so long as they pay the $37.45 fee. And the guy that put up the banner did just that. So in whining about it, Salm and anyone else is essentially saying that Christian speech or promotion should be outright banned.
Virgil Adams is the man that hung the banner, and he applied to do so back in July, between the dates Dec. 12 and Jan. 1.
“He can go and get a permit and do what he wants,” Adams said of Salm. “It’s a free country.” It’s the second year in a row that a Christmas banner has led to complaints in the city that’s home to the University of Oregon.
Councilor Betty Taylor brought up the issue in February, noting at a council meeting that the banner displayed in December 2016 caused a stir. Meanwhile, ten-year-old boys being pumped full of hormones and having their genitals mutilated because they say they “feel” like a girl DOESN’T cause a stir among these deluded clowns.
The bad news for the atheist crybabies is that Kathryn Brotherton, the city’s acting attorney, said that the city can’t regulate the content of any banner if it makes the space available to the public.
“A banner advertising an Easter service and a banner advertising a picnic at Alton Baker (Park) have the same ability to buy that spot and be posted there,” she said, according to a video of the meeting available online.
It’s funny how atheists think that getting their way is some kind of neutrality. When in fact, getting their way is just that, getting THEIR way. Meaning their views are getting special treatment over others.
If a city takes down overt Christmas imagery because it’s supposedly violating the separation of church and state, as it’s supposedly “state-sponsored,” then removing it is exactly the same as the State endorsing the atheist viewpoint. That being, anything remotely religious should be banned from public property. But abiding by that is the overt exercising of the atheist belief, which may be anti-religion, however, it’s still an ideology nonetheless.
So when atheists win these types of cases, in reality, the State is endorsing their views, which is exactly what they claim to be fighting against. But we all know it’s not about the endorsement of views, just the endorsement of the RIGHT views. Which for atheists, is their own. As it stands, Salm is just going to have to get over it. But the battle over Christmas is far from over.
