Stephen Paddock had an accomplice.
At least, that’s what the Las Vegas Metro Police Department hinted on Wednesday. The sheriff said that the shooter “had to have help.” But who?
Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, was in the Philippines when the attack occurred. She claims that she had no idea what was he going to do.
“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man,” Danley said in the statement. “He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.”
Police say that they’re now investigating another woman. Paddock was seen with a mystery woman during the last few days of his life. Even if she had nothing to do with the attack, she might have valuable information as to Paddock’s frame of mind.
Paddock slaughtered 58 people and injured over 500 more. The violence was so unsettling that even Republicans are starting to talk about gun control.
“I was grateful, but honestly, I was worried, that first, the unexpected trip home, and then the money, was a way of breaking up with me,” Danley said. “It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone.”
Paddock sent his girlfriend to visit her family about a week before the attack. He then wired her $100,000.
