The bad news just keeps on piling up for the NFL. Thanks to the league’s poor handling of the entire player protest ordeal, and the decision to appease the left-wing rather than its fans, sponsors are starting to flee. On Wednesday, one of their biggest partners, Papa John’s, openly blamed the league for poor sales and said the company would be pulling ads due to negative consumer sentiment.
While it’s bad enough that sponsor CEOs are speaking out against the league, conservative intellectual giant and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has finally jumped into the fray to offer his opinion on the issue.
As reported at the Daily Caller, while doing an interview with Laura Ingraham on her new Fox News show Wednesday, Thomas expressed concern about societal cohesion in view of protests staged by professional athletes during the national anthem.
“What binds us? What do we all have in common anymore?” Thomas asked. He added that he believes the infantile protests destroy the public’s faith in shared values and cultural symbols by exacerbating existing tensions that exist in our society.
“When I was a kid, even as we had laws that held us apart there were things that we held dear that we all had in common,” Thomas said.
“Some people have decided that the Constitution isn’t worth defending, that history isn’t worth defending. Certainly, if you’re in my position, they have to be worth defending,” Thomas said of principles and the Constitution.
He added ominously, “I think we’re getting quite comfortable in our society limiting ideas and exposure to ideas.”
Unlike these protesting athletes, Thomas was born in Georgia during the Jim Crow era. Through grit and determination, he worked his way up to the highest court in the land, becoming only he second black person to do so.
Despite his achievements, he is utterly despised by the Left, because he wandered off the liberal plantation and thought for himself. Liberals hate blacks that don’t subscribe to their ideology, and make no bones about being racist towards them.
What perfectly shows the Left’s disdain for black conservatives is that Colin Kaepernick got his jersey into the newly completed Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, while Thomas, despite his real achievements, has been slighted by the curators.
Thomas is absolutely right that these protests are damaging the public’s faith in our nation’s institutions. It’s disheartening for the public to see every space in society so consumed with politics, as nothing is sacred or beyond defilement. What’s happening in the NFL is just the latest and best example of our nation’s descent into madness.
