There seems to be a little bit of a confusion or misconception floating around about the difference between the right to do something and a law that says that you must. In the United States, we (at least for now) have the right to carry a firearm, but that doesn’t mean that it’s compulsory. Recommended in some areas maybe, but not demanded.
The subject of freedom of religion is a tricky one, especially since most religions are built around the notion of proselytizing. Basically, there are those who’ve taken their freedom to practice religion as a blank check to force others to do it as well.
We’re seeing this in a big way in Austria right now. The move is to go from the freedom to be a Muslim, to compulsory compliance with Muslim practices. Somehow, even government officials are getting behind this.
Here’s how it went down:
First, there was a proposal to ban the traditional Muslim garb, presumably by those who consider a religion of killing people to be something we shouldn’t support. Not very freedom-friendly to tell people what they can and can’t wear, but nature took its course, and those who object are taking to the streets. I don’t personally love it, but that’s fair for them to object.
Then, things got interesting. Apparently, the Austrian president isn’t actually pro-freedom, he wants to go to the other side altogether.
Via Gateway Pundit:
A clip used in the piece shows the Austrian president speaking with students during a roundtable discussion, commenting on proposals to ban the full Islamic face veil in the country, which he opposes.
Speaking of ‘’rampant Islamophobia’’, the president clearly emphasizes the word ‘’all’’ when suggesting that every woman would be asked to wear the veil, ‘’ in solidarity with those who do it for religious reasons.’’
Here’s the clip, lest you think I’m exaggerating.

I’m not going to digress into the religious issues here (though they are plentiful), I’m just going to say, one last time, in case you didn’t get it before; the freedom to do something isn’t the same as the legal obligation to do it.
I cannot think of a single reason for a fully functioning non-Muslim adult to say that this is a good idea unless it is strictly to ward off crime. Some people seem to think that we can band-aid this hemorrhage by giving in on our outward appearance. That’s not how it works folks. If you don’t believe me, see how it’s going in the Middle east where these things are already the law of the land. The violence and death only escalates when you feed the beast that is any religion willing to proselytize by force.
One would think that Austria would have learned it’s lesson from the last dictator that had them under his thumb; there is no appeasing a monster, you kill or be killed.
