It’s no secret that many Republicans thought that a Trump White House was a bad idea. Those who’ve made a lifelong career of honing their political skills didn’t take too kindly to someone who they considered to be a novice coming in and mucking up the political works in Washington. Despite their objections though, the Oval Office belongs to Donald Trump and they’ve got to find a way to cope.
Unfortunately for some, like Senator McCain, they’re not quite ready to let go of the past and move on. McCain has made his dislike for President Trump known in the past and is now backing the ever present Russia tampering allegations.
Via Daily Caller:
Republican Senator John McCain said that Russia, not the Islamic State, is our greatest foreign threat in an interview with ABC News Monday.
“I think ISIS can do terrible things … but it’s the Russians who are trying, who tried to destroy the very fundamental of democracy and that is to change the outcome of an American election,” McCain said.
When asked about the back channels Kushner was trying to set up with the Russians, McCain did not agree with members of the Trump administration that this was standard protocol.
“I don’t think it is standard procedure prior to the inauguration of a president of the United States by someone who is not in an appointed position.”
We should never want one of our politicians to give up on their principles and just back someone because the party says so. However, one has to wonder if McCain is concerned because of Russians or because Trump got something that he’s tried to get on several occasions to get, and was unsuccessful.
Maybe he has inside information. Maybe he knows all sorts of facts about a connection to Russia that hasn’t been released to us yet. But maybe McCain is just be looking for a good reason as to why this newbie is better at winning a Presidential campaign than he was.
