Marilou Danley’s brother called her immediately after he heard what happened.
“Relax, we shouldn’t worry about it. I’ll fix it. Do not panic. I have a clean conscience,” Danley told him.
Five simple words. “I have a clean conscience.” Were they true? Danley is a person of interest in the Las Vegas massacre. Her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, perpetrated the outrage.
“She was sent away. She was away so that she will not be there to interfere with what he’s planning,” one of Danley’s sisters told reporters.
About a week before the attack, Danley flew to her family in the Philippines. Paddock then sent her $100,000. She wasn’t involved in the actual shooting, but she might be able to shed light on Paddock’s motives. The home shared by the couple was stocked with guns, ammo, and materials to make explosives.
Danley flew back to the U.S. at the request of law enforcement. She landed in Los Angeles, where she was promptly questioned by police. She might be the key to cracking the case. If investigators have learned more about what prompted the crime, they haven’t revealed it. It’s possible they’re still in the dark.
Paddock and Danley both seemed like regular people. Danley traveled often and had a large social circle. Paddock was less extroverted, but still appeared to be a normal guy.
