On February 13th, 2016 Justice Antonin Scalia died at age 79. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, he was the longest-serving justice on the high court at the time of his death. President Trump took the time to acknowledge his late wife at his address to a joint session of congress on Tuesday.
Justice Scalia’s son was obviously touched by the tribute, especially his father’s fellow Justices’ standing for the ovation. These are the most honorable judges in the land and their respect for their deceased colleague says much about the reputation that he cultivated during his career.
Justices never clap, let alone stand, during speeches to joint session, but they did for my mom. Beautiful. pic.twitter.com/JYDNzBtOdE

Former President Obama said Scalia would “no doubt be remembered as one of the most consequential judges and thinkers to serve on the Supreme Court.” He was also known for his sometimes ineffable remarks, but his passion for justice and upholding the constitution was unparalleled. In reference to a case he was less than pleased with he famously remarked:
“The judge who always likes the results he reaches is a bad judge.”
Justice Scalia is leaving some huge shoes to fill, but President Trump seems more than confident that his nomination of Neil Gorsuch will not only uphold Scalia’s influence but more importantly protect the survival of the Constitution.
