The White House is worried about the Stormy Daniels scandal. Sources claim that President Trump’s legal team is desperately trying to block 60 Minutes from airing its interview with the pornstar.
“We understand from well-placed sources they are preparing to file for a legal injunction to prevent it from airing,” an anonymous source told BuzzFeed.
It may be an empty threat. Lawyers say that it’s not clear that Trump’s legal team has any grounds to stop the interview from airing. Whether or not Daniels has a right to blab about their relationship is being decided by the court. Last week, Daniels sued Trump.
Her team claims that Trump violated the agreement by forgetting to sign the original contract.
The Daniels nightmare continues to grow more troublesome for the administration. At the start of this year, it was revealed that Trump’s personal lawyer paid Daniels $130,000 in return for keeping her mouth shut about a relationship she allegedly had Trump over a decade ago.
Her suit alleges that she’s now from the obligation to remain silent because Trump’s lawyer admitted the payment in public.
According to BuzzFeed: “The lawsuit followed a temporary restraining order Cohen obtained in arbitration… in late February to keep (Daniels) from talking about the temporary restraining order, the 2016 payment, or the underlying ‘confidential information’ the payment intended to protect.”
However, Daniels now believes that she’s free to yap about the relationship. Her lawyer tweeted a picture of her standing alongside himself and news host Anderson Cooper. Cooper works with both CNN and 60 Minutes.
U.S. courts tend to side with journalists when it comes to releasing information. There are a lot of reasons why the White House might be nervous about Cooper’s interview with Daniels airing, but there’s not much that can be done about it.
ABC plans to air the interview Sunday, March 18.
