The White House is going to experience another staff shakeup. President Trump plans to fire the current secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, David Shulkin. If multiple sources are correct, Trump plans to nominate a Fox News host to take his place.
It’s well-known by now that President Trump loves Fox News. It’s one of the few networks that he trusts not to lie about him. One of his favorite shows is Fox & Friends Weekend. The country runs on fake news, Fox is one the few networks that doesn’t pander to its viewers base instincts.
Trump hopes that Fox & Friends co-host Pete Hegseth will replace Shulkin. It’s not the first time that he’s called for a Fox News pundit to join him at the White House.
“I’ve been told President Trump wants Pete Hegseth to replace [David] Shulkin at the VA after he is fired,” Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich tweeted.
She later added: “President Donald Trump is expected to fire VA Secretary David Shulkin and is strongly considering replacing him with US Army Veteran Pete Hegseth.”
Hegseth’s name was considered for the position before but veteran groups vehemently opposed the idea. Hegseth is a known political conservative, some veterans feared that his policies would eventually drain resources from the VA.
“If Trump picks Hegseth, it’s going to be war,” Paul Rieckhoff, executive director of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, said two years ago.
“He would be a radical departure from what the VA has been for generations.”
Hegseth has expressed support for giving veterans the option of having private health care.
Hegseth has an impressive pedigree. He has a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He also served in the military.
Trump’s decision is expected to be announced soon.
