President Trump finally spoke up about the Stormy Daniels scandal Thursday. He told reporters that he had no idea about the massive hush money payment his attorney paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels claims she had a bland affair with Trump 12 years ago. Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal attorney, paid her $130,000 and made her sign a nondisclosure agreement in 2016. So far the White House has denied Daniels’ allegations.
“You’ll have to ask Michael Cohen… Michael is my attorney. You’ll have to ask Michael,” Trump told reporters when pressed about the payment.
Trump has been uncharacteristically silent about the scandal. It’s likely due to advice from his legal team. He and Cohen are entangled in multiple legal battles with Daniels. She stomped all over the nondisclosure she signed and wants a judge to tell her that it was okay.
“Our case just got that much better. And we very much look forward to testing the truthfulness of Mr. Trump’s feigned lack of knowledge concerning the $130k payment as he stated on Air Force One,” Daniels’ lawyer said in a statement.
“As history teaches us, it is one thing to deceive the press and quite another to do so under oath… We will seek the deposition of Cohen and Trump.”
It’s incredible that the case is still getting so much attention. Even Daniels’ doesn’t claim that she was forced into the encounter. People knew that Trump had a colorful past when they voted for him. The Daniels story would have faded from the public consciousness by now if she and her team weren’t actively promoting it. Daniels is a performer.
Is Trump going to continue speaking about the affair? He really doesn’t need to. He doesn’t owe the world an explanation about his private sexual exploits. It has nothing to do with his ability to be president.
