President Trump is finally headed to California. He’s wrangled with the liberal state for years now. Californians reject almost everything that the Trump administration has been fighting for. Its politicians pride themselves on flouting federal law.
Trump hasn’t visited the behemoth state since he became president. Skipping California during his first year in office was a glaring omission. Most presidents, Democrat or Republican, pander to California liberals because of the states’ massive influence.
Hillary Clinton won California by a huge margin. A Republican presidential candidate hasn’t the carried the state in decades.
“Look, I think if anybody is stepping out of bounds here, it would be someone who is refusing to follow federal law, which is certainly not the president. And we’re going for what we hope to be an incredibly positive trip,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said when asked if the president planned to play nice during his trip.
Trump isn’t going to California to try win over residents, he’s going because he wants to see prototypes of the border wall. Democrats, especially those in California, have been fighting to block the wall’s erection but their efforts have been in vain. It looks like the border wall will soon exist in reality.
“The State of California is sheltering dangerous criminals in a brazen and lawless attack on our Constitutional system of government,” Trump complained last week. “They don’t care about crime. They don’t care about death and killings. They don’t care about robberies.”
The Justice Department sued California over its defiant sanctuary city policies earlier this month. “California better hold on tight. They’re about to see a lot more special agents, a lot more deportation officers,” Acting ICE director Thomas Homan said.
President Trump plans to travel to San Diego to view the border wall prototypes.
“I’m going to go out and look at them personally and pick the right one,” Trump told a crowd in Alabama last year.
