On Monday President Trump officially endorsed former GOP presidential rival Mitt Romney’s Senate campaign.
“Mitt Romney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah,” Trump tweeted. “He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to Orrin Hatch, and has my full support and endorsement!”

Trump’s decision to bury the hatchet makes sense. Romney’s a shoe-in to win and the president needs all of the support on Capitol Hill that he can get. Even if it comes from a man he once he referred to as one of the “dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics.”
Romney’s been out of politics for awhile now but he still knows how the game works. He made a name for himself among Never-Trumps and RINOs by blasting the president, now that he’s poised to re-enter the national stage it’s time to get back in line. Romney’s like a chameleon, he allegiance depends on his surroundings.
“Thank you, Mr. President, for the support,” Romney responded on Twitter. “I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.”
There’s been a lot of speculation that Romney was planning to challenge Trump once he entered the Senate. Less than two years ago Romney sniped on Twitter: “If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement.”
Romney salivated after Trump’s endorsement in 2012, a fact that he pretended to be ashamed of until recently.
If Romney is really willing to play ball with Trump, conservatives should celebrate his return to politics. The president needs more people that he can rely on in Congress. Romney’s support could bolster Trump’s agenda.
