Nikki Haley’s damning words in front of the UN last week represented more than an idle threat.
Disgruntled member countries voted to condemn President Trump’s decision to relocate the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Haley warned them in advance that their defiance would have consequences.
The UN Ambassador announced Sunday that she’d negotiated a massive $285 million budget cut for next year. The UN’s operating budget for 2018-2019 will be significantly less than expected.
“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known,” Haley said in a statement.
“We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked… In addition to these significant cost savings, we reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key US priorities throughout the world and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the UN system.”
Haley is a superstar. Barack Obama’s feeble administration would never have mustered up the courage to stand up the UN.
The UN has been resting on its own prestige for too long. There needs to be more accountability.
“The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out in this assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation,” Haley said last week before the controversial vote.
“We will remember it when, once again, we are called up to make the world’s largest contribution to the UN, and we will remember it when many countries come calling on us to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit.”
It is sick we pay the United Nations to hate us
So pleased @nikkihaley announced at $285 million dollar cut to that horrible institution!
