An American Olympian tried to distract fans from his disappointing showing at this year’s games by insulting First Daughter Ivanka Trump.
“Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well … Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here??,” skier Gus Kenworthy asked on Twitter, posting a picture of his U.S. Olympic teammates.
So proud of all these people! Everybody here has worked so hard to make it to the Olympics and have the opportunity to walk in the closing ceremony! Well… Everyone except Ivanka. Honestly, tf is she doing here?? pic.twitter.com/sfJKi0VTDb

Social media users quickly pounced on Kenworthy’s tone-deaf tweet.
“So you finish in 12th place, and then tweet this to try your best to stay relevant. Grow up,” one user wrote.
“Didn’t you finish last or in the bottom half of most of our ski competitions? I believe you did. Perhaps you should practice more on making yourself better and leave the political commentary to the experts,” added another.
Kenworthy failed to make much of an impression during the games. More people are talking about his Twitter activism than his skiing.
“Russia’s biggest win since the 2016 US Presidential election!” Kenworthy quipped after the Russian men’s hockey team took home the gold.
Kenworthy may have bashed Ivanka, but most Olympians were pleased to chat with her. Lauren Gibbs, a women’s bobsled champion, allowed Ivanka to wear her medal.
“I feel like this almost is like trying on someone’s wedding band,” Ivanka smiled when the medal was placed around her neck. “Am I allowed?”
Ivanka’s presence in Pyeongchang for the closing ceremony was significant because just a few days ago the Trump administration hit North Korea with a round of new sanctions. One of the goals of the 2018 Winter Olympics was to foster a friendlier relationship between North Korea and the West.
President Trump hopes for a diplomatic solution but he’s willing to use force if necessary.
Ivanka’s team has yet to respond to Kenworthy’s attack.
