The Stormy Daniels scandal isn’t going away. On Friday her attorney, Michael Avenatti, told CNN that he had proof President Trump is lying.
“The cover-up is that you have attorney [Michael] Cohen claiming that Donald Trump never knew anything about this. You have the White House claiming that Donald Trump never knew anything about this,” Avenatti told Chris Cuomo.
“That’s going to be shown to be patently false.”
The White House maintains that President Trump wasn’t involved with Cohen’s payment to Daniels. Officials are also denying the affair.
“We have substantial evidence and facts that were not included in the complaint,” Avenatti continued.
“We’re not going to lay all of our cards out on the table … when that evidence and those facts come to light, the American people are going to conclude that attorney Cohen and the White House have not shot straight with them on this issue.”
Stormy Daniels represents a serious thorn in the president’s side. Media pundits are spending more time talking about Daniels than North Korea. If the president did lie about what happened, it could cause trouble with his supporters.
It’s not the 90s. Americans have matured since Bill Clinton was kicked out of the White House for lying about a sexual experience. Trump voters have already demonstrated that they won’t desert him just because he has a past.
Trump’s relationship with Daniels, whatever it was, was consensual.
“Evangelicals know they’re not compromising their beliefs in order to support this great president,” Pastor Robert Jeffress told Fox New.
“And let’s be clear, evangelicals still believe in the commandment ‘thou shalt not have sex with a porn star… However, whether this president violated that commandment or not is totally irrelevant to our support of him.”
The lying, however, might rankle some people.
Will this scandal derail his presidency? Probably not. Unless Daniels has a few more tricks she’s waiting to play.
