Despite the flurry of negative press surrounding him because of the Michael Cohen controversy, Sean Hannity’s is absolutely thriving. The Fox News host’s show is once again sitting at the top of the rankings.
He was toppled briefly in March. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow temporarily wrestled the popularity crown away from him and became the queen of cable news. Her show managed to attract the most viewers of any cable new program for the month.
“Maddow averaged 3.058 million viewers for the month, narrowly topping Hannity’s 3.00 million. That also marks Maddow’s best performance ever in the 9 p.m. ET time period. Maddow also won in the adults 25-54 demographic, nabbing an average of 671,000 viewers in the measure compared to Hannity’s 616,000,” Variety writes.
“MSNBC also had a strong month as a whole, with the network’s primetime, daytime and total day numbers all setting new MSNBC records in total viewers… MSNBC was also up this March in both daytime and total day, while Fox News and CNN saw declines. Still, Fox News remained the top cable news network…”
MSNBC did better than it has in its entire history and it still wasn’t enough to unseat Fox News from the top seat. That’s how much Americans love Fox. They don’t trust MSNBC and CNN at all.
Some analysts predicted that viewers would shy away from Hannity’s show while the mess with Cohen, President Trump’s personal lawyer, was worked out. It was leaked recently that Hannity was a client of Cohen’s.
Not a big deal except Cohen is known for making hefty payments to mistresses in the name of his boss. Being associated with Cohen while he’s in the midst of a federal investigation is embarrassing for Hannity’s brand.
At least, people thought it would be. It turns out that viewers don’t care.
