Rush Limbaugh has a solution for the violence rattling the nation’s schools- allow teachers to carry concealed weapons. Empower school officials to protect themselves and their charges, he argues, and you might you see a reduction in gun violence.
“The solution is we need concealed carry in these schools… if we’re not going to take action, we better have mechanisms in these schools to stop it when it breaks out,” Limbaugh told Fox News.
It’s the old trope, the good guy with a gun stopping the bad guy. Limbaugh believes that a strong defense is the only way to keep kids safe. The next mass shooter is out there and he’s not going to be deterred by gun laws.
“We have armed security at every public entity except schools,” Limbaugh said. “The next shooter is out there and probably has the gun he is going to use.”
Gun control advocates are clamoring for change. Last week one of the worst mass shootings in the country’s history occurred at a Florida high school. The shooter, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, was so unstable that a few weeks prior to his attack the FBI received a tip that he might be dangerous.
Agents failed to act on the tip. Cruz eventually killed 17 people.
Limbaugh admits that schools might benefit from having armed security guards. However, he disagrees with the popular liberal idea that banning AR-15’s would have a noticeable effect.
“If you ban that, they find something else,” Limbaugh said.
Gun control is on everyone’s mind.
Most Americans are still staunch defenders of the Second Amendment, but people are starting to recognize that Congress isn’t doing enough to keep them safe. Multiple mass shooters exhibited warning signs that should have prevented them from purchasing firearms.
“I wish Congress could legislate it away,” Limbaugh said. “It’s not the (National Rifle Association’s) fault.”
