Roy Moore’s Jewish lawyer ended up with the last laugh. Americans were stunned last month when Moore’s airhead wife tried to combat anti-semitism allegations by chirping “One of our attorneys is a Jew!”
Moore’s campaign was destined to fail anyway, but his wife’s insensitiveness certainly didn’t help him. The couple appeared to be completely out of touch.
“There could not be a more passionate supporter of Doug than me!” said Richard Jaffe, the Jewish attorney hired by the Moores in 2016.
Doug Jones, a plain-joe Democrat, defeated Roy in Alabama’s special election for Jeff Sessions’ vacated Senate Seat. It should have been an easy victory for Republicans, but voters were disgusted by the foul allegations made against Roy.
Jaffe told the Washington Times that he and Jones “ had been friends for 30 years, and that he had donated to Jones’ campaigns.
The Moores were accused of being anti-Semites after Roy told a radio host that he believed Jewish billionaire and Clinton campaign donor George Soros was headed straight to Hell.
“He’s still going to the same place that people who don’t recognize God and morality and accept his salvation are going,” Roy said.
Moore’s loss provided fodder for liberal media pundits. Democrats are convinced now that their party will be triumphant in 2018, upsetting the Republican gains won by the Trump administration.
Jaffe wasn’t the only one in Moore’s circle to abandon him. Many prominent Republicans had distanced themselves by the end of the election. Moore became toxic almost overnight.
