Steve Bannon has been dragged into the Russia Investigation. Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller won’t quit until he has something to charge President Trump himself with. Is Bannon hiding anything? Mueller subpoenaed the fired White House strategist last week. If Bannon does have something to reveal, Mueller’s about to learn all about it.
Getting fired from his post after less than a year on the job was so humiliating for Bannon that he turned sour, insulting the president in interviews with media hacks.
“The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor — with no lawyers,” Bannon said in “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, the political book that’s been shaking up Washington.
“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic … you should have called the FBI immediately.”
The Trump administration has weathered a lot of storms. Trump’s embroiled in a major scandal right now, in fact. People reacted furiously to false reports that he denigrated African immigrants.
Bannon, then, isn’t strong enough to topple the administration. Trump isn’t an experienced politician, but he knows how to defend himself from spurious allegations. Democrats desperately want Trump to be guilty of something, anything, but they’re out of luck.
According to the New York Post, “Mueller’s team has used subpoenas before to get information from President Trump’s associates, but this is the first time he used a grand jury subpoena… Bannon on Tuesday was appearing in a closed-door hearing with the House Intelligence Committee, which is also probing Russian interference in the election and whether any Trump campaign.”
After Bannon first broke with the Trumps, the president noted that he had “lost his mind.”
