Instead of dying down, the Russia investigation is gathering force. A respected Republican strategist warned President Trump Sunday that a “storm is coming.” Trump needs to beef up his legal team to protect himself.
Alex Castellanos told ABC that it was obvious Robert Mueller is “going to dig up something in Trump’s complicated financial history to say, ‘Look, the president of the United States did this and it was wrong.’”
Castellanos isn’t overreacting. Mueller’s entire job is to find something negative to pin on Trump. It doesn’t matter what it is. Mueller is a bloodhound.
Some career attorneys are so scared of what might happen that they’re refusing to represent the president. They don’t want their name dragged in the mud if Mueller finds something. And considering the scope of Trump’s business dealings, there’s a good chance the special prosecutor will latch onto something and call it illegal.
Castellanos also believes that the Republican party is in dire straights. Midterm elections are coming up and he doesn’t think they look good
“And it’s hard to believe then that when Republicans lose the House in 2018, maybe by 40 or 50 seats, that the House is not going to impeach him,” he said.
“And it’s also hard to believe that a US Senate that’s going to be scared to death, though may still be in Republican hands, is not going to take a serious look when it has to deal with this president… So get good legal help now, because the storm is coming.”
Trump’s head attorney resigned in March. The two disagreed on how to handle the probe.
A lot of lawyers want Trump to take a cooperative approach. Reports indicate that the president would rather appear aggressive. He doesn’t want to agree to a sit-down interview with Mueller because he didn’t really do anything wrong.
