There are quite a few things going on in the US today that will be looked back on with abject disgust by future generations. The list is far too long to lay out, but there is one particular issue that’s glaringly apparent to anyone willing to look, yet constantly gets overlooked and downplayed by the left-wing media.
While leftists love to sensationalize every cop shooting involving a black person or mass shootings, they detest reporting about the unbelievable violence in Chicago. That’s because doing so would both destroy their narratives about gun control and also force them to act like they care about black lives. A perfect example highlighting the senseless and perpetual violence plaguing the city can be seen in a heartbreaking story involving a 5-year-old boy.
As reported at the New York Post, Chicago police report that a child that was shot in the face during a drive-by shooting last year has once again suffered a gunshot wound. This time, a self-inflicted shot in the hand.
The latest gunshot wound occurred on Tuesday night at a house on the South Side of the city. The reason the child had access to a firearm? His father apparently left it laying around and had acquired it illegally to boot, having scraped off the serial number.
The boy, Kavan Collins, found the gun in the bedroom, where he shot himself in the hand. Obviously, the wound and experience were bad enough for the child to suffer, but now his father is facing felony charges related to the gun and child endangerment. Last year, while Collins was walking with his sister and mother, a bullet from a drive-by shooting hit him in the jaw.
Collins just can’t seem to catch a break. Getting shot in the face and then injuring himself with an illegal firearm in the span of a year. These are the kinds of conditions many kids in Chicago are living in. Criminal and reckless fathers and dangerous streets, yet we don’t hear a peep about what’s going on the media.
All you have to do is check the local newspapers every week to learn of the dozens shot and multiple murdered every week. It’s a war-zone, and it’ll continue to be one until the cowardly media and leftists running the city actually address the root causes. But don’t bet on that happening anytime soon.
