Colin Kaepernick may have ruined the NFL. His moronic protest turned off millions of people who just wanted to watch a good ballgame. Seeing Kaepernick and his cronies disrespect the flag before every game left a sour taste in a lot of mouths.
League owners should be outraged. Ratings for the 2017-2018 season are in, and they’re abysmal.
“Fox’s late game on Sunday between the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints was hit particularly hard, down a whopping 18 percent from the same time slot a year ago,” the Daily Mail writes.
“Jacksonville’s defeat of Buffalo was down 13 percent for CBS, while Tennessee-Kansas City
and Atlanta-Los Angeles were down 10 and 14 percent, respectively, from the same time slots at the end of the 2016 NFL season.”
Those numbers are too large to be ignored. Americans are watching less football, and there’s only one thing to blame.
Not that you would know that if you listened to Commissioner Roger Goodell. He exists in a fantasyland where ratings are independent of players’ antics.
“We always want ratings to go up, but we’re 37 of the top 50 shows, which is higher than ever,” Goodell said defensively.
“We’re likely to be the No. 1 show on Fox — excuse me, on all of television, the Fox Sunday afternoon game. Sunday night, prime time is for the seventh year in a row the No. 1 show. Thursday Night Football is No. 2… I think dominance of the NFL in television is still very clear.”
The NFL won’t recover until players stop acting like whiny brats and stand up for the national anthem.
ESPN's lineup of college football bowl games was up 12% year-over-year ratings wise. All 4 NFL playoff games see double digit ratings decrease. Looks like football isn’t unpopular. Just the @nfl. #StandUp
