Prominent NFL owners and players held a vital meeting Tuesday.
The league has been battered by controversy as fans revolt against the player’s protest. Team owners are desperate for a solution. Tellingly, the man who started the drama, Colin Kaepernick, was conspicuously absent from the meeting.
“Colin Kaepernick was not invited to attend today’s meeting by any official from the NFL or any team executives,” Kaepernick’s attorney complained.
“Other players wanted him present and have asked that he attend the next meeting with the goal of forging a lasting and faithful consensus around these issues. Mr. Kaepernick is open to future participation on these important issues.”
Kaepernick is a free agent. He’s not currently signed with any team, so why should he be invited to a meeting intended for people who are actually involved in the NFL? Additionally, Kaepernick is currently suing every single owner in the league.
“Today owners and players had a productive meeting focused on how we can work together to promote positive social change and address inequality in our communities,” the NFL wrote in a statement.
“As we said last week, everyone who is part of our NFL community has a tremendous respect for our country, our flag, our anthem and our military. In the best American tradition, we are coming together to find common ground and commit to the hard work required for positive change.”
