Up until recently, politics was supposed to have absolutely no bearing on the execution of law enforcement. And that makes sense, because law enforcement deals with concrete laws, while politics deals with all that goes into making those laws. Sadly, there’s been some circumventing of the standard process, and politics are starting to bleed into what is done at places like the FBI.
Most specifically, the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election should be something that is a completely factual issue. However, the Democrats have made it their great white hope, and seem to have gotten one of their own, Robert Mueller, to head up the process.
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is less than optimistic about Mueller’s objectivity during this investigation.
Via Daily Caller:
Former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich is deeply concerned about Robert Mueller’s ability to lead a non-partisan, unbiased investigation, he said in an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation
Gingrich is specifically concerned about the fact that Mueller’s ex-law firm, WilmerHale, gave $326,798 to Hillary Clinton in the run up to the 2016 presidential election, compared to the $628 that the firm donated to Trump.
Gingrich slammed Republicans for not doing enough. “Unfortunately, all too many Republicans are sleepwalking and pretending this is all okay,” he told TheDCNF. “And they don’t do any research. They don’t look at, what’s the background to what’s going on here? This is not a fair game. These are people who are out to destroy Trump.”
Gingrich said that when he began digging deeper into Robert Mueller, he discovered some worrisome facts. “You couldn’t make this up if you were doing this for a novel,” Gingrich asserted. ”
In the case of a normal investigation, we always hope that justice is blind and doesn’t hold your political affiliation or really anything other than the facts of the case against you. The Democratic party has put themselves so squarely in the middle of this controversy though, it’s difficult to see how someone who considers themselves a part of that could possibly be objective. Unfortunately, this has made conservatives defensive of the President, and the objective sect there is shrinking as well.
I suspect that Gingrich is right about one thing; after all this hoopla they will have to have some way to make all of this make sense, somebody to pin it on. I don’t know who their whipping boy (or girl) will be, but I do know that it’s going to have to happen soon, because everyone is beginning to see the desperation and lunacy of this oхота на ведьм (that’s Russian for “witch hunt”).
