Melania Trump is a very unique First Lady in many ways. She is only the second foreign-born First Lady, after Louisa Adams in 1825. You probably know that her country of origin was Slovenia and that she speaks multiple languages, but you may not know that she began her now famous modeling career at the age of 5. She worked very hard in an unforgiving industry for most of the rest of her life to move up through the ranks of the fashion industry and was at the top of her career when she met and eventually married President Trump.
The President’s beautiful and accomplished wife does have a different outlook on life because of her unique background, but she seems to be using that to her, and our, advantage. Some of that diversity could be seen in her speech at a ceremony to honor the winners of the International Women of Courage award.

She has been places that most of us will never go, and experienced things most of us will never encounter, both good and bad. Her perspective, although different, is something that we can all learn from. Despite her beauty and success, she has no problem giving honor where honor is due. She’s not threatened by those who have accomplished different things than her or by those who attack her.
Yes, she’s an unusual First Lady, but if we embrace it we just might learn something from her.
